Vehicle detection is crucial in the implementation of assisted driving or collision prevention systems. Further, given the limits of human vision, detection at nighttime is paramount to prove the effectiveness of any such system. Thus, this project endeavors to implement a nighttime vehicle detection system based on the Windows Phone platform. The basic premise is to mount the smartphone on the vehicle dashboard with the camera facing the front. Then, image processing concepts such as Otsu's binarization, connected components labeling and conditioning are used process the camera footage and detect vehicles.
